What does USP <85> mean on a peptide COA?
Short answer
USP <85> is the United States Pharmacopeia chapter on the bacterial endotoxins test. On Clean Peptide's certificates it names the endotoxin test on all 24 ILS Laboratories lots. ILS's certificate notes say its endotoxin test follows USP <85> by the kinetic chromogenic method, and the result is reported as a measured value in EU/mL with no pass or fail limit.
How each laboratory names and reports the endotoxin test
| Laboratory | Method as printed | Lots | How the result is given |
|---|---|---|---|
| ILS Laboratories | USP <85>, kinetic chromogenic (certificate notes) | 24 lots | Measured value in EU/mL, "Report Result", status Reported |
| HYTE Research Division | LAL ELISA | GLP-2 Tirz 20 mg | 0.199 EU/mL against a limit of 0.5 EU/mL, Pass |
| HYTE Research Division | LAL Chromogenic | KPV 10 mg (certificate) | < 0.5 EU/mL against < 0.5 EU/mL, Pass |
| Accurate Test Labs | Not named | Bacteriostatic Water 3 mL and 10 mL | 0.50 EU/ml against a limit of 350.00, Pass |
Read from the live lot pages on 30 October 2026. The ILS method note was read on the TB-500 10 mg and Thymosin Alpha-1 10 mg certificates and on ILS's portal. The KPV row is read from the certificate image; its lot page does not list it yet.
Only the ILS certificates cite USP <85> by name. Their notes add "Acceptance criteria per client specification", and the result box explains why there is no pass or fail line: acceptable limits vary by product type and matrix, so no universal threshold applies to research-use products.
The other certificates name their method differently and set a limit: HYTE Research Division prints LAL ELISA on GLP-2 Tirz 20 mg and LAL Chromogenic on KPV, both against 0.5 EU/mL, and the Accurate Test Labs bacteriostatic water report gives a limit of 350.00 without naming a method. Across the 24 ILS lots the printed results run from NMT 0.05 to 0.134 EU/mL.

Follow-up questions
Does a USP <85> result on these certificates pass or fail?
Neither. ILS shows the specification as "Report Result" and the status as Reported, so the certificate gives the measured EU/mL figure and leaves the limit to the client.
Is USP <85> the same test as the bacteriostatic water endotoxin test?
The certificates do not say. The Accurate Test Labs report names no method; it gives 0.50 EU/ml against a limit of 350.00.
